Editing splines

· Also located in the »Tools-menu« are the editing- functions for splines. The fist one - »Edit Spline« - affects the whole object. After selecting this menu-item you have to click on a spline-object to get a dialogbox, where you can set the polynomal degree and the curve-subdivision. Both settings determine the smoothness of the spline. To get a picture of how this can look like, you should create a scene with a spline, that has at least 5 to 7 control-points (vertices). Render this image a couple of times and alter the values for the polynomal degree and the curve-subdivisions.
Note: if you want to open the spline-setting- dialogbox, then you have to click on the curved blue line.

Moving vertices

· The next function is for translating control-points of a spline. After choosing »Move vertex B-Sp« from the »Tools-menu« you have to click on a spline to select the object you want to change. After this, you can click at the center of a control-point to move it to its new position. While you are moving vertices, POVLAB switches into a spline-editing-mode. In this mode a crosshair-cursor is used to move around the control- points. Note that only the control-points of the edited spline are displayed. Pushing the right mouse-button leaves the spline-editing-mode and the viewports will show all objects in the scene again.

Deleting vertices

· As the move-function you have to select the object you are going to work with first. Thsi is done by clicking on the blue line. After selecting, you can start to delete vertices by clicking on them. You will also enter the spline-editing-mode in this function, which enables you to delete more than one point at a time.
Note: you will not be asked, whether you really want to delete the respective control-point. So be carful and do not click on a point unless you're absolutely sure, that it is the one you want to delete.

Adding vertices

· Of course you can add vertices to an existing spline as well. Adding vertices is quite similar to deleting control- points. When you create a spline, you will not only notice the blue line (the curve of the spline) and the control-points, but also another stright line, connecting the vertices; this is the line, you have to click on, to add new points.

Note: before you can add a control-point you have to select the spline you want to work with. This is done by clicking on the blue, curved line. If you've finished adding new vertices, then press the right mouse-button to end the spline-editing-mode.

· We have already heard, that the size of the vertices determine the thickness of the spline. Ergo, there must be a function to change the diameter of the control-points. You can do this with the function ...

Edit vertex

· To change the diameter of a vertex, simply click on a it and determine the new thickness by moving the mouse. This works rather similar to changing the size of an object with the mouse.

· The info-bar in the lower right corner of the screen diplays the new thickness. Additionally you can press the »ALT-, CTRL- and SHIFT-key« to achive better precision.
