Smoothing splines
· Consider a spline-object where the thickness should steadily grow from the first to the last vertex. If you had to do this manually, you'd probably need some time. Alternatively you can resize the start-point and use the smoothing-function afterwards. All you have to do is to select this menu-item and click on the first control- point. POVLAB will then compute the size for the remaining vertices. Check out the following image to get a picture of this smoothing-method ... ![]() · The left vertex of the upper spline was resized and used as starting point for a »smooth-operation«. The result is a uniformly increasing thickness of the spline. The only thing you have to keep in mind is, that you can smooth a spline only as a whole. This means, that even when you click on a vertex somewhere in the middle of the spline, all vertices of the spline are smoothed. |
Splines and CSG-operations
· For all the tutorial-readers, who are interested in some technical facts: Like the Pyramid or the Prism splines as presented to POV-Ray as a merged group of spheres and cones. Nevertheless you can use splines in any other CSG-operation. Using splines · Splines are extremely flexible objects, which can be used in various ways. Denis »The Great« Olivier for example modelled some jelly-fish consisting of splines and yet - splines make a very good moustache, as can be seen on the leader of the worlds most famous »mongole hordette« ... ![]() |
