SETTING UP POVLABs INTERFACE
This section describes the customizing procedures, that have to be done, to arrange the POVLAB-interface.

Applying textures to the interface

· By default, POVLAB comes with a few assorted textures, which you can apply to the interface. This is done via the »Interface«/«Texturing interface«-menu. Applying the texture to the interface is a quite simple precedure: just select the GIF-file you like, disable the »no pattern«-checkbox on the bottom of the dialogbox and press »ok«.

NOTE: You can certainly use your own GIF-files as texture samples under the following conditions: A - the GIF-files must to be in the »PATTERN«-folder of your POVLAB-directory; B - the images need to match POVLABs interface (defined in the PALETTE.PAL-file). Alternatively you can use the TGAVGIF.EXE-tool (supplied with POVLAB) to create GIF-images, that fit the palette-defaults.

Applying colors to the interface

· Besides texturing the interface, you can also apply colors to the different zones of POVLABS user-interface. Simply click on »Colors« in the »Interface«-menu and you will get the appropriate dialogbox (see picture to the left).
· The dialogbox has five buttons for each component of the interface. Via the »interface«-button you can select the color for the frame around the viewports. Just as it is with the textures, you should not select a too bright or a too dark color, because this would infringe upon readability.

· The »viewports«-button lets you choose the background-color of the drawing-windows. Dark blue- or violet-tones are advantageous, because too bright colors will collide with the default-color of newly created or existing objects

· The »text zone«-button controls the background-color for the different info-zones of the interface. A medium- gray-tone is advisible to get a good contrast to the font-color.

· The last two buttons control the appearance of the viewports axis and grids. Depending upon the color-setting of the viewports, a dark-gray tone for the grid is quite useful, because this color makes a very fine line and can be good distinguished from the colors of the wireframe-objects.

· So far, the setup-procedures for customizing POVLAB and it's interface should be explained. From now on it's modelling! Simply click on the »forward«-button to enter the next section. Alternatively you can click on the »info«-control to step back to the table of contents.
