SETTING UP THE ENVIRONMENT
In this section we will check out some parameters, which allow a perfect integration of POVLAB into an existing raytracing-system. Also on the agenda: customizing the looks of POVLAB.

Environment (ENV) strings

· To make POVLAB consider your system-defaults, you can set up some environment variables. Access to the environment-parameter-dialogbox can be gained by klicking on »Environment« in the »General«-menu.

· As you can see in the picture below, the first four entries in the dialogbox contain various path infos. The first entry specifies the directory and EXE-name for POVRAY 3.0.

Keep in mind, that POVLAB 4.0 does no longer support versions of POVRAY minor than 3.0.

· The second and third entries specify the paths for the scene- and the rendered image-files. You can deposit anything you want, as long as the path really exists.

· The fourth ENV-string leads POVLAB to its texture- library-index-file. Just as in the entry for the POVRAY- path, you must deposit the complete path and filename.

· In the fifth ENV-string you can specify the path and name of a »custom-include-file«. Within this file you specify further include-files, which POVRAY might use.

· The rest of the ENV-strings store the registering infos and (opt.) the paths to the scene- and picture-viewers.

NOTE: If you're working with a DOS-version lower than 7.0, you should download a DOS-ASCII-editor, that is capable of displaying files larger than 64kB. Such editors can be found in BB-Systems and on shareware-sites on the Internet.

· If you're working with the Windows-version of POV-Ray, you can force POVLAB to use POVRAY for Windows by activating the corresponding switch in the dialogbox.
