CREATING AN OBJECT LIBRARY
This section will show you, how to save object-selections and how to merge them into new scenes. |
Creating object libraries
· By now we have completely built the column for our temple! Due to the fact, that a temple - in most cases - exists of more than only one column, the need arises, to save the column as a component, which we can merge into other scenes later on. Saving a selection · Before you start the »Save selection«-command it is recommendable to deselect all objects, using the command-sequence »selection« | »none«. After you have done this, change to the »front-viewport« and maximize it. · In the next step, we will select the column by dragging a selection-rectangle around the objects. Choose the command »selection« | »area« and move the mouse- cursor to a point next to the upper left corner of the columns top-box. Click once and drag the rectangle to the lower right corner of the column. Another mouseclick will make the whole column selected. |
· Using the command «File« | «Save selection«, you can now save the column as a tile, which you can use in further works. Before the file is written to disk, you are asked for a name for the new scene-file. By default, the selection is saved into the folder »POVLAB\SCENE«. If you want the tile in another directory, move it with the »move«-command or tools like »dosshell«.
Merging a scene · Merging a scene works pretty much like opening an existing scene file. After activating the »File« | »Merge scene« you will be presented the regular file-open-dialog, from which you can select the scene to merge. NOTE: · POVLAB saves a selection with the light sources and cameras that are in the scene. This means, that if you load a previously stored selection as a normal scene-file, you will get all cameras and light-sources but If you merge the selection, then just the objects are imported. |
