· Last but not least there are the »planes«. POVLAB offers three types of planes: A - the »YZ-plane«, B - the »XZ-plane« and C - the »XY-plane«. The shortcuts at the beginning of the names indicate the alignment and position of the plane in the 3D-coordinate system (e.g: the YZ-plane expands along the Y- an Z-axis). Planes are very easy to use and make good walls, floors or skies. There are some things to mention when using planes in combination with special textures like Halos; we will hear about this topic in the corresponding section.
Combined objects · If you take a look in the »Objects«-menu you will see some more entries, then discussed here. Well, some of the objects will be mentioned later (blobs ...) and some are just »combined objects« like the »False Prism« or the »Pyramid«. The »False Prism« has got its name, because it is merely a conglomerate of five planes. If you alter the position of the planes and their angles, then you get what kind of shape - right, the Pyramid. |
· So let's take the following into consideration: A - Prisms and Pyramids are some sort of POVLAB-macro. For example - you simply click on »False Prism« and POVLAB does all the calcualting and positioning for you.
How Prisms and Pyramids are passed to POV-Ray · There is a major fact, you should know about: Prisms and Pyramids are passed to POV-Ray as a CSG- intersection. This can cause strange side-effects, when prisms or pyramids overlap with special objects like »Blobs«. If you ever encounter a situation, where something in a scene is missing or looks somewhat »strange« then just examine if there are any obscure intersections of other CSG- objects or blobs (etc.) with pyramids or prisms. · Though these shapes are CSG-combinations already they can nevertheless be used as CSG-modifiyers or -objects within a »union«, »difference«, »intersection« or a »merge«. |
