The CSG-workout

· After this short jump into the land of theory, it's about time, to create some cool CSG-objects for our temple. We have prepared the scene-file TMPLCSG1.ZIP (ca. 3.7kB), which you should download by clicking here.

· What we are going to to, is to make a few arches along of the frontsides columns. After we have created the neccessary objects and after a difference-CSG- operation, the frontside will look like this ...

Creating the CSG-elements

· Before a CSG-operation can be performed, we have to build the neccessary elements. In detail, we need one box and three cylinders. Follow the step-by-step-guide to create this shapes.
Step 1 - change to the front-view and maximize it.
Step 2 - create a box of the following size and position:
Scale X: 13.400 Y: 1.000 Z: 1.400
Translate X: 0,000 Y: 4.000 Z: 0.000
Step 3 - create three cylinders and enter the following parameters in the manual setup (alternatively you can also scale, rotate and translate the shape with the mouse).
Cylinder 1 (in the middle)
Scale X: 2.600 Y: 1.410 Z: 1.000
Rotate X: 90,000 Y: 0.000 Z: 0.000
Translate X: 0,000 Y: 3.000 Z: 0.000

Cylinder 2 (right)
Scale X: 2.600 Y: 1.410 Z: 1.000
Rotate X: 90,000 Y: 0.000 Z: 0.000
Translate X: 8,000 Y: 3.000 Z: 0.000

Cylinder 3 (left)
Scale X: 2.600 Y: 1.410 Z: 1.000
Rotate X: 90,000 Y: 0.000 Z: 0.000
Translate X: -8,000 Y: 3.000 Z: 0.000

NOTE: You shoud assign different colors to the box and the three cylinders, so that you can distinguish the objects, when we create the CSG-group.

Step 4: We now have a source-object (box) and three modifying shapes. Whenever you have more than one modifier, than you should build a selection, which contains all modifying objects. To do this, deselect all objects an select the cylinders with the command »selection« | »object« (continued on next page).
