Step 8 (continued) - select the command »modify« | »copy« and duplicate the scaled half-sphere (Note: to get no deviation in height, you should use the TAB-key to enable a copy-movement along the X-axis only; click here to obtain more infos about the TAB-key-functions). Step 9 - now you have to adjust the two shapes! Move one shape slowly over the other, so that the overlapping zone shows a lens, like displayed in the picture on page 15
· Note: You should use different line-colors for the shapes - this will help you to better distinguish the two objects. Step 10 - after aligning the objects, create a CSG-group by selecting the command »csg« | »intersection« Short break and summary: OK - this was a bit of work, but we've got it. Because of the intersection, the raytracer will only render the points that are within the overlapping region, which will result in a lens-like shape. · After creating the intersection, you can copy the two half-spheres to get the remaining three leaves (the left and right leaves are 90°-rotated copies of the original). Do not forget to activate the »selection«- switch when you copy, rotate and translate. And of course: all half-spheres must have the same »Translate Z:«-value (which should be no problem, if you did work only in the front-view). The eye of the rose · Compared to the leaves, this part of the ornament is really a piece of cake! Just create another half-sphere and resize it, using the function »modify« | »scale 3D«. After this, place the shape right into the middle of all four overlapping zones. In addition you can switch to the »top«- or the »left«-viewport and adjust the translation along the Z-axis. |
· If you scale the middle-half-sphere in the setup-dialog then use the following vectors ...
Scale X: 0.200 Y: 0.120 Z: 0.200 Rotate X: 90,000 Y: 0.000 Z: 0.000· The translation-values are not included in the above table, because they are easy to adjust manually. Now there is only one thing left, and that is ... The final cylinder · Because we want the ornament being embossed into the top-box, we have to take some precautions. The space, where the ornament is to placed, has to be cut out of the top box. We will manage that with a CSG- difference-operation (as you will see). · Switch to the front-view and create and scale a cylinder, so that its diameter has ca. the size of the ornaments half-spheres. If the other objects of the ornament are aligned to the center of the coordinate-system, then these vectors should fit ... Scale X: 0.000 Y: 0.125 Z: 0.800 Rotate X: 90,000 Y: 0.000 Z: 0.000 · That's it! Now save the ornament under a new filename, such as »ORNAM01.SCN« and load the scene-file »TMPLCSG2.SCN«. If you don't have this scene, then click here to download the file TMPLCSG2.ZIP (ca. 14 kB). · On the next page, we will insert the ornament into to temple. If you did not create the scene-file yourself, then click here to download the file »ORNAM01.SCN« (ca. 1.2 kB) - continued on next page ... |
